Very interesting, with some echoes of N.K. Jemisin. The happily ever after ending is certainly pretty much all that can happen after the battle, but the future of Mariel seems oddly unspoken, with no sense of what might happen as she ages. Definitely a very unique story for this site.

Feels kinda empty. Story went along without consequence in any way. Just him losing two people he loved, its more of a sad tale and not an interesting one.

For a story whose chapters were submitted two days apart, it’s amazing that it took almost a week for part two to show up. I think I would have preferred the whole story rather than this elongated piecemeal approach.
